# Rogers' $7 Increase: What to Check on Your Bill

_2026-11-03_

Rogers is adding $7 a month, plus tax, to certain home internet packages, starting with the first bill on or after August 18, 2026. If you're a Rogers customer, check your bill this week: the increase may already be on it. [iPhone in Canada's report](https://www.iphoneincanada.ca/2026/07/06/rogers-is-raising-home-internet-prices-for-the-second-time-this-year/) says it's the second increase of the year, and that active promotional discounts and guaranteed-price rates stay in place until their original end dates.

## What does $7 a month actually add up to?

Seven dollars sounds small, so do the multiplication the way you would for a modem rental:

- $7 x 12 months = $84 a year, before tax
- $7 x 36 months = $252 over a typical three-year stretch, before tax

That's the part nobody puts in the notice. A small monthly number is easy to accept; the three-year number is the one worth comparing against alternatives.

## How do I find out if my package is affected?

The report only says "certain internet packages" and doesn't list them, so your own bill is the real answer. Here's the two-minute check:

1. Open your most recent bill and find the base internet line (your plan name, not the fees below it).
2. Open the bill from before August and compare the same line.
3. If the base line is $7 higher, that's the increase. If it's unchanged, look at the date: a promotional or guaranteed rate may be holding it until a set end date.
4. Find that end date. Write it in your calendar a month earlier. That's your real decision day.
5. Check the other lines too: equipment rental and any "service" fees count toward the total you pay, even if the advertised price doesn't mention them.

## What are my options?

The same report says customers who want to dispute the change, ask for an updated service agreement or cancel should contact Rogers using the details on their bill. A few things worth knowing before that call:

- Ask what your price will be on your promo end date, in dollars, not in percent.
- Ask whether a retention offer exists. Some do, and they're often shorter than the plan you'd be giving up.
- Read the cancellation terms first. The CRTC announced in March 2026 that it's [removing extra fees to activate, change or cancel a plan](https://www.canada.ca/en/radio-television-telecommunications/news/2026/03/crtc-eliminates-fees-to-make-it-easier-to-switch-internet-and-cellphone-plans.html) (Telecom Decision CRTC 2026-43). The announcement doesn't state an effective date, so ask Rogers what applies to your account today.

## Why this is the moment to compare

Price notices are the one time providers hand you a reason to shop around. Most of us only compare when something breaks. A notice with a dollar figure on it is a cheaper reason: you already know your baseline.

When you compare, put the same four items side by side for each provider:

1. The price on your first bill and the price on your twelfth
2. Equipment: rental fee, or included
3. Activation, installation and shipping fees
4. Contract length, and what leaving early costs

## Where oxio fits

I switched to oxio in 2020, and the reason I stayed is that the answers to those four questions are short. oxio says there are [no activation, installation, shipping or equipment fees](https://aide.oxio.ca/en/article/are-there-activation-installation-or-basic-equipment-fees-1j1az4t/), with equipment rental included, and there's no term contract. Check your address first: oxio sells in Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia only.

If you want to try it, enter TRYOXIO at signup for a free first month. I share it as an oxio customer under a referral agreement, which is disclosed on the [about page](/en/about).
