Why oxio in Winnipeg?
Winnipeg's been Bell MTS territory for decades, so oxio gets sized up against a very specific incumbent bill — and the missing line is the equipment rental fee that shows up every month whether you touch the modem or not.

Two wired networks, and which one oxio uses
Winnipeg has two big wired networks. One is the cable network that used to be Shaw's and is now Rogers, fibre to the neighbourhood and coax into the house [2]. The other is Bell MTS, the old Manitoba Telecom Services, which Bell bought in 2017 and which now runs Bell's Western Canada operations out of Winnipeg [3]. Bell MTS pure fibre reaches many addresses, but not every one [5].
oxio rents the Rogers West network, which covers BC through Manitoba [1]. So in Winnipeg, oxio comes in over the same ex-Shaw cable a Rogers customer has. If your building only has Bell MTS fibre wired in, oxio isn't the right fit for that address; the address check will tell you.
What changes on your bill this fall
Bell MTS is raising every home Fibe Internet plan by $5 a month on October 1, 2026, from Fibe 75 up to Gigabit Fibe 3.0 [4]. If you're a Bell MTS customer, compare against your bill after October, not the price you signed up at.
Our Winnipeg-specific tip: other independents sell over this same cable too (Wakey, for one, says it mainly uses the Rogers last-mile network in Western Canada [5]), so the cable you'd get is often the same whichever of them you pick. The real differences are price rules and fees. oxio has no term contract [7] and charges $0 for activation, installation and shipping, with the modem lent [6].
