Why oxio in Saskatoon?
Saskatoon's big enough to have real provider competition, and switchers there keep coming back to the same reason: no surprise line items on the bill, no contract locking anyone in, and a router that's included instead of rented.

A crown-corporation fibre network, and the cable oxio rides
Saskatoon's wired phone-company network is SaskTel, a provincial crown corporation founded in 1908 and made a crown corporation in 1947 [5]. It announced its infiNET fibre-to-the-home network in August 2012, starting in parts of Regina and Saskatoon [5]. The Provincial Auditor says SaskTel began replacing copper with fibre in the province's nine major cities, Saskatoon among them, in 2010 [4]. Province-wide, 77% of households had access to SaskTel fibre at March 2025, against a target of 82% by March 2026 [4].
The cable side is Rogers. Shaw ran cable systems in Saskatchewan, and its merger into Rogers closed on April 3, 2023 [3]. Rogers' Saskatoon page still carries the "Together with Shaw" title and describes fibre to the neighbourhood with coax into the home, up to 2 Gbps [2]. oxio rents Rogers West, the cable network from British Columbia to Manitoba [1], so in Saskatoon oxio typically arrives over that cable. SaskTel's own fibre isn't on oxio's list of rented networks [1], so check your address before assuming which one you'll get.
What changed for Saskatoon switchers this year
In March 2026 the CRTC announced it was eliminating the extra fees to activate, change or cancel an internet plan [7]. Don't assume a leftover fee is standing between you and a switch; read your current terms first.
On the cable side, Rogers is adding $7 a month plus tax to certain internet packages from the first bill on or after August 18, 2026, and some two-year-term customers saw a $10 increase earlier this year [6]. Promotional and guaranteed rates stay until their original end date [6]. Our Saskatoon tip: open your Rogers bill, find the internet line, and compare it against oxio, which has no term contract [9] and charges $0 for activation, installation and shipping, with the equipment included [8].
